

SHORT BIO
Dr. Janaina Pamplona da Costa is Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Department at the Department of Science and Technology Policy (University of Campinas – UNICAMP, Brazil; acted as the Head of Department between 2021 and 2025). She is a faculty member at the Postgraduate Programme in Science and Technology Policy (UNICAMP) where she convenes courses on Methodology, Social Studies of Science and Technology, and Geography of Innovation; Associate faculty at the Postgraduate Programme in Geography (Unicamp) and at the Postgraduate Degree in Scientific Journalism (LABJOR, UNICAMP). She also teaches a course on Science and Technology Studies for undergraduate students.
An economist by training (Bachelor’s in Economics, UNICAMP), Dr. Pamplona da Costa holds a Master’s degree in Science and Technology Policy (UNICAMP), and a PhD in Science and Technology Policy Studies (2012) at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU/Sussex University, United Kingdom).
Associate Coordinator of the research group Public Policy, Geography of Innovation and Governance – GOING (UNICAMP), Dr. Pamplona da Costa´s research interests include network governance, geography of innovation, public health and emerging frameworks in science and technology with a focus on transformative innovation policies in Latin America.
She has worked in research projects funded by CAPES Foundation (Brazil), European Union, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC/UK) and more recently the National Science Foundation (USA), the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz, Brazil), and FAPESP (Brazil).
